CURRENT PROJECTS
Autumn 2011 I have been working on my 'Xyla' novel for the past few months and it is going well and I have decided to illustrate it in a more conventional Graphic Comic style. I plan to develop this 2D style into Children's Book illustration which I will post on this site in the coming weeks. 22 April 2011 Working On A New Style
I've been a bit lapse with the updates because I've been pursuing various artistic avenues. In the current financial climate it makes sense to diversify. But my trouble is this often ends up with so many ideas that I end up spreading myself to thin. I feel I need a more conventional illustration style in addition to the 3D. I'm not convinced that digital 3D has really been embraced by Children's Book Art Director's, so I am going to revisit watercolours. It will be harder to stand out from the crowd than it is with traditional 3D but I'm going to give it a go. I'll post something here soon.
Chris 4 January 2011 This Years Agenda
I'm going to be working on a more traditional type of illustration portfolio to broaden the appeal of my work. Hopefully I will get a positive response to the Zac Spanner promotion in the coming weeks. But I'm not going to let the grass grow under my feet. I'll also be working on some sculpture this year with the intention of making these available to purchase:) 20 November 2010 Getting It Out There
I've been busy creating the lenticular cards to send out to publisher's. The 3D style of illustration lends itself to this kind of medium. I have opted for a 'flip' effect card which features Zac changing from the 'mothers boy' to the cool genious inventor. I have sent out cards to the publisher's who don't forbid unsolicited material. I will ask my agent if he can approach those who have tighter submission policy. 16 October 2010 Zac Spanner VR I've been working on the model of Zac which is now rigged for poses. To show him in three dimensions I have created a VR model of him for you to examine. Just click and drag your curser on Zac and he will rotate. Click
Here for the page. 25 September 2010 The Last Acorn I might illustrate my 'Last Acorn' book in watercolour instead of my usual style of traditional 3D. I guess I will get some opinions before I decide. Just click the 'Dummy Books' 'The Last AcornBook' link to the left to see the latest pages:) 11 September 2010 Website Development I've changed the layout of the homepage and made the links to the books a bit simpler. I have also reworked the rather long-winded opening page of the Zac Spanner story. I am working on Zac's Laboratory for the front cover, I'll post that soon;) 5 September 2010 The first chapter of Zac Spanner's first adventure is now available as a book flipping dummy. Just click the link to the left, to access the page. Feel free to leave a comment:) 30 August 2010 Still producing pages for my Zac Spanner story and I have almost completed the first chapter. It has a temporary front cover at the moment but I am working on it. I want to produce the cover as a lenticular screen, so I have been reading up on how to process the image. Lenticular lenses are also pretty expensive so I am trying to source some at a reasonable price. I want to get the first three chapters and cover image finished, before I can even think about marketing the concept to Art Directors. 26 August 2010 I have been working on the first of the Zac Spanner pages. I have created him in CGI although I was tempted to use traditional 3D, ie modelling clay. But as I have plans for small animations in addition to the illustrations for the book, digital seems the most versatile option in this case
I will be seeking a Publisher for the Zac Spanner stories but because I believe in the concept so much I am willing to self publish. Click on the 'quick link' to the left to access the Zac Spanner page. Thanks For Looking:)
